Little known Iron Strikers from Karen area in Nairobi are charged up to win the Division One nationwide Eastern zone league when it starts next weekend. Strikers will be starting their campaign against an experienced Bidco FC.

The team that has played in several build up matches has enhanced their training at their Bomas of Kenya base but is in talks with Marist International University so as to let them play their home matches in the institution.

The team took part in the just concluded Catholic university tournament but was eliminated by Laiser Hill High in the quarter finals. Strikers’ coach Jeff Omukatu blamed fatigue .

“We had played two group stage matches before playing against Laiser hill, we played really well but we were unlucky to lose the match. I have to say that my players did everything right. This year’s tournament was a bit competitive.” Omukatu said.

The team lacks a sponsor to facilitate them with financial support but they will be looking to impress in order to attract potential suitors from corporate organizations. The coach has also recruited 15 experienced players and he’ll be hoping that the blend of the experienced players and the youngsters will help in his quest for glory.

“I trust the boys are ready for the challenge ahead because financially, we depend on donations and hopefully this will motivate the boys to perform well to attract. I have a good team, a mixture of experienced players and quality young players. The future is bright and we want to be promoted to the KPL come next season.”   He said.

“This season, the league will be tougher and competitive but my boys have always wanted to play in a tough league so we don’t have anything to lose. Our first match will be against BIDCO. They   have a good team, an attacking minded team but I know we are equal to the challenge We have always wanted to play in the KPL and I trust that we can achieve our goal come the end of the season”, the confident coach fired warning to their rivals.
Speaking to michezoafrika.com BIDCO coach Juma Abdullah also expressed optimism of starting well.

“We are fully prepared and I know we will give our opponent a run for their money because we have the experience despite losing some key players.I believe my team will perform and may the best team win the match”.
