KPL likely to land title sponsorship

Updated on 22/02/12  |    By TIMOTHY OLOBULU

As early as next month, the Kenya Premier League could land title sponsors, this is according to the Kenyan Premier League CEO Jack Oguda. Oguda in an interview on Wednesday morning said talks between the KPL management and two corporate companies are at an advanced stage and they could be launching the sponsorship sometime in March once the talks are concluded.

“We are in talks with two companies, very big companies in Kenya and we are almost hitting an agreement. We do not want to pre-empt anything but as early as March we could unveil the deal.”, Oguda said in an interview with Michezoafrika.com.

Oguda said the sponsorship will greatly help in the development of the local league.

“These are very respectable blue chip companies and the amount of money they will be bringing on board is immense. We also anticipate that this will bring in advanced competition and as such we will have more fans in the stadia”, he said.

Closer home, The Ugandan top League is sponsored by East African Breweries with their “Bell” Brand as the local league title sponsor while the Tanzanian League is sponsored by telecommunication company Vodacom with the league being known as the Vodacom Premier League.

At the same time, Oguda says that they are still pursuing the sponsorship for the Top 8 Tournament.

“We did not manage to hack a deal before the start of this tournament but we are hopeful that we will reach an agreement soon. Talks are still ongoing and we are optimistic of a deal”, he adds.
