Mashariki Africa Sports Leadership School (MASLS)

Located on the outskirts of Bungoma town, MASLS is a visionary project aimed at transforming the ailing sports administration and leadership in the East African region.

 The college is purposed to becoming the hub training centre for advanced and specialized courses in relation to sports leadership across all disciplines in East and Central Africa.

Mashariki Sports College MASLS is a perfect solution to the management problems affecting our African continent where Office management has never been a true mirror of the athletes’ performance that has admirably placed our country to the global rankings.

 The factual existence of European managers managing our Kenyan athletes is a true reflection of how our sports administration is wanting. Mashariki Afrika Sports Leadership School is a visionary college borrowing its leaf from the Sole South African International Sports leadership school- ISLS, a superb and only kind of sports leadership training centre in Africa,ISLS Boasts of having trained and produced successful personalities in Sports leadership across the world.

The school was officially launched in a colorful ceremony held at the college in Bungoma on Sunday 19th September 2010. The classes of pioneer students commence on Monday 20th September 2010 with 20 students having already reported at the school. The students have been selected from 6 different East African countries namely Uganda,Rwanda,Kenya,Tanzania with Ethiopia expected to send 2 representatives. The students will camp at the college for the coming 29 days and will be taken through an intensive researched and approved curriculum.

The Students

Out of the trained coaches around the East African region through the Ubabalo program module 1,20 representatives were selected upon merit to join the centre for the one month’s intensive training on sports leadership and grooming to become trainers of trainers with a view of expanding the base of Ubabalo training facilitators in Kenya. The coaches must hold certain values that guarantee them to be role models in society.

Criteria for Trainees of Ubabalo Life Coaches at MASLS

  1. Must aspire to a high level of integrity and portray leadership potential.
  2. Must live an exemplary life which demonstrates his/her adherence to high moral standards.
  3. Must have a passion for sports for development.
  4. Must be acknowledged by his community as a leader with a testimony of active involvement and maturity in sports development.
  5. Must have a gift of training including a wisdom to answer questions related to life issues as well.
  6. Must receive mentoring and life skills coaching.

With this training, then we envision to have even a wider coverage of training reaching out and surpassing our target of 1.3 million future leaders within the next 3 years through the multiplying effect. We project that the centre will hold two of such sessions each year training different sets of leaders drawn from across the country and later across East and Central Africa to becoming trainers of trainers in their regions of existence. It is also important to note that apart from the two yearly Ubabalo training sessions, the MASLS will be a hub of training for all types of sports leaders in East and central Africa region to supplement the only existing school of such repute, The International sports leadership School in Stelenbousch South Africa.

The courses to be highlighted mostly in this School will be:

  1. Sports administration
  2. Sport leadership
  3. Coaches training in all disciplines of sports ranging from, Athletics, soccer, basketball, handball, Etc.
  4. Sports medicine and first aid
  5. Referees trainings
  6. Sports nutrition and dieting
  7. Sports accountability and finance

Trainers

As a centre of high excellence, the teachers, facilitators and coaches at the centre have been pooled from highly decorated leadership trainers from across the globe.

The MASLS Board

The academy is run by a board of 10 highly recognized non political personalities of high integrity.

Mashariki Youth Sports Academy

Mashariki Sports College With a year spread out in twelve months. We intend to maximize the use of Mashariki Afrika sports leadership school by doubling it up as a youth boarding soccer academy three times a year. A selected number of highly talented budding soccer stars will be accommodated in the centre for advanced soccer skills drilling and training during their school holidays of: April, August and December. The academy will draw its occupants from a pool of the kids’ leagues set up under the Ubabalo program and other youth development programs across the nation. The first of the academy class shall be held this December.

They will be taken through a series of trainings to cover;

  1. The laws of the game
  2. Whole life coaching and drilling
  3. Professionally controlled soccer drills
  4. Techniques and systems of play
  5. Sports medicine and first aid
  6. Sports nutrition among others
